Sandblasting abrasive comes in many different varieties and sizes. Most abrasives can be used on the same job, however they will all leave a different finish on the work piece. Common blasting abrasives can be garnet, slags, crushed glass, glass bead, steel and many others.

Silica sand, wash sand, play sand, industrial sand, fill sand, or and other sand containing silica should not be used for sandblasting. Silica dust can cause silicosis if breathed in by bystanders or operators, this causes permanent damage to lungs and airways. Always use PPE designed specifically for sandblasting.
