Blast Hood Lenses

Sandblast hood lenses are a common item that any blast operator should be familiar with. For most models of blast hoods they utilize an "inner" lens that is typically thicker and set into a rubber gasket. This inner lens makes the air tight seal to keep out contaminates and keep in the air from your breathing system the inner lens is typically the lens that gives your blast hood its safety rating. Two other common lenses are "intermediate" and "outer" lenses. The intermediate lens is typically a solid lens that is placed in front of the inner lens onto the visor of the helmet. This lens provides protection to the inner lens from abrasive rebound and scratches while the helmet is in use. The outer lenses are typically tear off lenses that are installed directly in front of the intermediate lens. These tear off lenses allow blast operators to quickly remove a damaged lens and restore visibility while blasting. All blast hoods should be used with at minimum one inner lens and one outer or intermediate lens.
